Ingredients:

2 cans black beans, drained and rinsed

1 bell pepper, finely diced

1 onion, finely chopped

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 tablespoon cumin

1 teaspoon hot sauce

1/2 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs

1 egg (for a vegan option, use flaxseed egg)

Salt and pepper to taste

Whole grain buns and your choice of toppings

Instructions:

Mash black beans in a bowl until thick and pasty.

In a separate bowl, mix bell pepper, onion, and garlic, then stir into mashed beans.

Add chili powder, cumin, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir in breadcrumbs and egg until the mixture is sticky and holds together.

Divide mixture into patties.

Grill patties on a preheated grill or skillet for about 8 minutes on each side.
